1. Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Contact and brewery forms:
    • Your name, email address, phone number (optional), brewery name, city and state, your role at the brewery (on our US Beer Guides brewery form only), what you're interested in, the topic you choose, and any message you send.
    • With each submission we also record technical details: the date and time, the page you submitted from, your IP address and your browser type (user agent).
    • On our US Beer Guides brewery form, we also record how you reached the form: the referring page and any campaign tags in the link (UTM tags).
    • Form submissions are stored in our website's database and emailed to our inbox.
  • Email updates: our state brewery and contact forms collect inquiries only and do not include a marketing email opt-in. If you sign up for a newsletter or other email updates when we offer them, we keep your email address, your name and the state or interests you chose. On usbeerguides.com, the brewery form may include an optional checkbox to hear about options by email.
  • Messages: if you email us at hello@ or breweries@ one of our domains, we receive your email address and the contents of your message.

Information collected automatically

  • Analytics:
    • Some Sites use Google Analytics (set up through Google Site Kit for WordPress). It collects information such as the pages you visit, how long you stay, the site that referred you, your approximate location (city or region, derived from your IP address), and your device and browser type.
    • Google Analytics uses cookies (for example _ga and _ga_*).
    • Google Analytics is currently used on georgiabeerguide.com and tennesseebeerguide.com. usbeerguides.com does not use Google Analytics. If we add it there, we'll update this policy.
  • No advertising cookies: we don't show ads, so we don't use advertising cookies (see Section 3).
  • Server logs and security:
    • Like most websites, our web servers automatically log your IP address, browser type, the pages requested, and the date and time of each request.
    • Our hosting provider may use security tools to detect and block malicious traffic, and our forms use a hidden spam-trap field. These may process your IP address and browser information for that purpose.
  • Cookies and similar technologies:
    • Cookies are small files stored by your browser.
    • We use them to understand how our state guides are used (analytics), and our security software may set them to protect the Sites. We don't use cookies for advertising.
    • You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Some features may not work properly without them.

We do not knowingly collect sensitive information such as payment card numbers on our Sites.

  • Any payments or tips (for example a "Buy us a beer" link) are handled by our payment processor, Stripe, on Stripe's own pages and under Stripe's privacy policy.

2. How we use information

We use information to:

  • answer your questions and brewery requests, and update brewery listings;
  • send you the options or information you asked for, and, with your consent, occasional emails about US Beer Guides;
  • run, maintain, secure and improve the Sites, including preventing spam and abuse;
  • understand which pages and features are useful (analytics);
  • comply with the law.

3. No advertising

  • We don't show ads on any of our Sites, and we don't use advertising or ad-targeting cookies.
  • We don't let ad networks collect information about you on our Sites to target ads.
  • If that ever changes, we'll update this policy first, including the disclosures and opt-out choices that apply.

4. Email marketing and your choices

  • If we offer a newsletter or other marketing emails, we will use an email service provider to store email addresses and send those emails, and we will update this policy to name it.
  • Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link and our mailing address, as required by the U.S. CAN-SPAM Act. You can unsubscribe at any time.
  • Unsubscribing stops marketing emails. We may still send you messages about a request you made.

5. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for money.

We share information only:

  • with service providers that help us run the Sites and our business, under their own terms and privacy policies:
    • our web host, Nixihost;
    • Google, for Analytics and Tag Manager (on our state guides), Maps (the maps on our state guides) and Fonts (all Sites);
    • Google Gmail, which receives email sent to our hello@ and breweries@ addresses and our form notifications;
    • Stripe, for payments made through our "Buy us a beer" links;
  • with the brewery you write to us about, only if needed to update or confirm its listing, and only the details relevant to that request;
  • if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety and security of US Beer Guides, our users or others;
  • in a business transfer (for example a merger or sale), in which case the information stays covered by this policy.

Brewery listing information (business name, address, hours, phone, website and similar) is business information, and we publish it on the Sites.

6. How long we keep information

  • Form submissions and emails: we keep them as long as needed to handle your request and keep our brewery records accurate, generally up to 24 months after our last contact.
  • Email list: we keep your details until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
  • Analytics data: kept according to our Google Analytics data retention settings.
  • Server logs: kept for a limited period by our host for security and troubleshooting.

7. How we protect information

  • We use reasonable safeguards: HTTPS encryption on all Sites, access limited to people who need it, and security monitoring on our hosting.
  • No website or email system is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.

8. Children and age

  • The Sites are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
  • Our content is about breweries and beer and is intended for adults of legal drinking age (21+ in the United States). Please enjoy responsibly.

9. Your rights and choices

  • Access, correction and deletion: you can ask us what personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it.
  • US state privacy rights: depending on where you live, state laws (such as those in California, Virginia, Colorado and others) may give you additional rights. These can include the right to know, access, correct or delete your personal information, and to opt out of targeted advertising or the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information.
    • We don't sell personal information.
    • We don't use your information for targeted advertising.
    • We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
  • Email: unsubscribe at any time using the link in any marketing email (CAN-SPAM).
  • Cookies and analytics:

10. Third-party links and services

  • The Sites link to websites we don't control, including brewery websites and social media pages. Their privacy practices are their own, so please review their policies.
  • Maps on our state guides are provided by Google Maps (including through the WP Go Maps plugin). When you view or use a map, Google may collect information under its own privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy.

11. Changes to this policy

  • We may update this policy from time to time. We'll post the new version on this page and change the effective date at the top.
  • If changes are significant, we'll take reasonable steps to let you know.
