Normaltown Brewing Co.

Normaltown Brewing Co. is an independent brewery in Athens that grew out of co-founder Phil Fortson’s decades-long interest in homebrewing. Fortson began brewing in the 1990s before starting the company with his brother Scott and support from friends and family. Normaltown opened in 2020 at the Oneta Warehouses, then expanded in 2024 into a distinctive Quonset hut on Barber Street with a substantially larger brewing system. The brewery produces a broad mix of styles, including lagers, wheat beers, IPAs, sours, and stouts rather than concentrating on a single category. Visitors can expect a brewery-focused taproom where the house beer is the main attraction, with the unusual building and the company’s transition from a small homebrewing-inspired operation to a larger production brewery providing much of Normaltown’s character.
